Michael Pollak in his role as senior lecturer at TU Wien mainly supports the “ways of thinking in informatics” lecture, hosted by the Human Computer Interaction group. He also supervises a number of bachelor thesis and projects as well as the advanced coding course. Besides his work at TU Wien Michael Pollak is a software developer and entrepreneur based out of the woodquater, rural lower Austria. He is specialised in plugin development for the LMS Moodle, specialised e-commerce solutions and prototyping.
His research interests are in the intersection of education, technologied, rural areas and society. Pollak received his PhD. working with the team of Martin Ebner at TU Graz. His dissertation explores the integration of practitioners
in K-12 formal education to teach computational thinking more practice based. His interest in making and maker education led to the establishment of a makerspace and recurring workshops for rural youth.
As a lifelong learner Michael Pollak currently studies at BOKU Wien to gain a deeper understanding of sustainability challenges and technological potential in smart farming.

Michael Pollak ist Softwareentwickler, Unternehmer und Wissenschaftler. Er arbeitet auf einem Bauernhof im Waldviertel an vielen großen und kleinen Ideen, versucht Praktiker*innen in der schulischen Bildung zu etablieren, entwickelt zeitgemäße Lernsoftware, beschäftigt sich mit Nachhaltigkeit und generell der Zukunft.
Er hat an der TU Wien studiert und später im Team von Martin Ebner an der TU Graz sein Doktorat mit Auszeichnung abgeschlossen. Seine Dissertation erforscht das enorme Potential von Praktiker*innen im Computational Thinking Unterricht. Als Senior Lecturer lehrt und forscht er wieder an der TU Wien am Institut für Human Computer Interaction.
Sein Unternehmen spezialisiert sich seit 2008 auf die (Weiter-) Entwicklung von Lernsoftware basierend auf der Plattform Moodle, der Umsetzung von spezialisierten Onlineshops und der Entwicklung von Prototypen. Außerdem wurde mit der Investition in einen offenen Makerspace die Möglichkeit für junge Menschen geschaffen, eigene Ideen mit der Unterstützung von Expert*innen zu realisieren.
Privat liegen ihm die Entschärfung der Klimakatastrophe für zukünftige Generationen und die wichtigen Anliegen der Menschen im ländlichen Raum am Herzen. Er ist gerne in den Bergen und in Nachtzügen unterwegs.
